WWE superstar Summer Rae recently revealed that she plans to receive part of her pay from the WWE Royal Rumble in crypto. Summer Rae made the declaration during an appearance on Fox Business’ Cavuto Coast to Coast.

Details Of The Revelation

If all goes as planned, it would make sports history. Rae would be the first female pro athlete to receive pay in crypto. It is already a trend amongst male pro athletes. Even politicians have been getting in on the trend. For instance, New York’s Eric Adams promised he would receive his first salary in Bitcoin, a promise he has kept.

Summer Rae recently returned to WWE TV during the January 21 Friday Smackdown. She plans to make her in-ring return during the January 29 30 – Woman Royal Rumble Match. She plans to receive her pay in both Bitcoin and Litecoin.

Summer Rae And The Crypto Industry

Summer Rae, real name Danielle Moinet, has been active in the crypto industry for a while. For instance, at the start of 2022, Moinet joined Cornerstone Global Management, Inc., a crypto-focused company. Summer Rae will receive the crypto via an automated conversion, which will be managed by Hedge, a pay conversion platform run by the company. Other athletes have also joined the crypto sector in various positions. For instance, in October 2020, NBA Star Tracy McGrady joined Voyager Digital Inks as an advisor.

All of the athletes joining the crypto industry have been men, and this fact is not lost on Moinet. While discussing the decision, Moinet said that going back to the WWE was special to her since there have only ever been 4 Women’s Royal Rumble matches. She said that she grew up watching the WWE Royal Rumble and she would imagine her name on the big screen, even though it was only men on the screen.

She added:

“I am excited to be converting some of my pay from the PPV into crypto with Hedge. As more professional athletes are starting to get paid in crypto I think it’s important for female athletes to as well. I am excited to be at the forefront of that movement!”

The CEO of Cornerstone Global Management, Inc., David Schwartz, agreed with Moinet. He said:

“I’m very excited for Danielle. She’s getting to go back into the ring, which is something she’s wanted to do for a bit now, and also putting her money where her mouth is by actually converting some of her pay into crypto. It’s a watershed moment for female athletes to be included in the crypto space, and I’m proud she’s the one who is able to usher that in.”
