Elon Musk just teased his Twitter followers about the possibility of dogecoin (DOGE) being featured in his Saturday Night Live hosting debut – this obviously prompted a spike in the digital asset’s price.

At the moment of writing this article, DOGE is trading in the green and the coin is priced at $0.3329.

Here’s Musk’s tweet below:

CoinDesk noted that the tweet seemingly triggered excitement among dogecoin traders that the meme-based crypto would see further attention in front of a large television audience.

The same online publication also notes that Dogecoin was most recently featured in Musk’s tweets on April 1 when he claimed that “SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon,” in what may or may not have been an April Fool’s joke as DOGE, like all crypto, is digital by definition and not physical.

CoinDesk noted that “Joke or not, the tweet was followed by a 32% rise in the price of the Shiba Inu-represented crypto.”

Retail giant accepts DOGE payments

It’s been just revealed that to celebrate  #DogeDay, a leading tech-focused e-retailer in North America, Newegg announced that the company will now accept Dogecoin as an official payment method.

Andrew Choi, Sr. Brand Manager of Newegg, said the following as cited by AMBCrypto:

“The excitement and momentum around cryptocurrency are undeniable, and the recent surge in Dogecoin value underscores the need to make it easier for customers to make purchases with this popular cryptocurrency”

Hey @elonmusk, if we accept @dogecoin as a payment option, would you buy from us? #DogeDay #dogecoin 🚀
