Blockchain project Cosmos (ATOM) recently released a new software development kit, known as Stargate. The arrival of the SDK is a major milestone for the project, as it indicates the arrival of the IBC (Inter Blockchain Communication) protocol. In essence, it is the first major step towards creating the so-called “internet of blockchains.”

Cosmos launches its new SDK — Stargate protocol

The protocol’s launch will be a game-changer for Cosmos, as it will bring one of the biggest goals of the crypto industry — interoperability.

With Stargate out, different application-specific chains will be able to operate with one another. That will include things such as sharing tokens, as well as data. Furthermore, developers will also be able to use the developer kit that comes with the protocol and create and deploy dApps.

These decentralized applications will then be functional across different blockchains, as long as they are built using the Cosmos Stargate SDK.

Additional benefits of Stargate protocol

Cosmos has gone an extra mile to make sure that everything regarding Stargate will work properly. Mostly, it conducted tests again and again, even using different teams to test the protocol before release.

Some of the teams that have checked it out already include Informal Systems, Regen Network, Iqlusion, Interchain Foundation, Tendermint, Agoric, and others. And, while bringing interoperability is undoubtedly the biggest development that will come from the protocol, it will also have additional benefits.

One of them will be improved network efficiency. That will include faster full-node sync, as well as additional node upgrades.

Lastly, the kit also brings certain protocol buffers. Essentially, this is Google’s own data serialization standard, which will make it much easier to move data through different programming languages and streams.
