Forthewin Network has announced the launch of the FTW Arena, a new game that pits FTW Runes against each other with the victor earning a GAS prize. Runes are algorithmically-generated NFTs which follow the design of the FTW logo, each having one of seven elements and a base luck attribute valued between 1 and 10.

Rune phases are based on the five phases/elements of the Chinese Wuxing philosophy. In FTW, the five traditional phases, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, are extended with the addition of two new phases—“Light” and “Dark.” A maximum supply of 500 runes may be generated, each being available to mint for 10 GAS a piece. At the time of writing, 207 runes have been minted so far.

Arena

Five arenas are available for rune owners to enter, numbered after the maximum player capacity for each arena: 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128. Runes in the arenas are pitted against each other in a sequential Rock-Paper-Scissors style competition. The final victor of a game round becomes the champion and receives the prize for that round.

Following the principle of Wuxing, the element of a rune dictates what other rune types it is strong against or weak to. These strengths and weaknesses act as modifiers for the luck attribute. The current formula used to determine the modifiers can be viewed here.

For example, fire runes are very strong against metal runes, and slightly strong against wood, however they are very weak against water, and slightly weak against earth types. Dark runes are slightly weak to the light element but slightly favored against other types, while the inverse is true for light runes.

The luck modification is applied to the first rune in a given pair, and the resulting luck rating of each rune is then compared to determine a final winner for the battle. In the event that the final luck value for two runes is the same, the nonce of the current N3 block is used to randomly determine a winner with a 50/50 probability.

In the future, players will also be able to place bets on the rune they think will win the next round. Runes will stay in the arena until ordered to leave, allowing champions to earn continuous rewards.
