Four Developmental Strategies
The roadmap announced the four areas for improvement that will become a reality in 2023 and strengthen the Graph network. The four developmental areas were Firehouse, Substreams, Moving the protocol to L2 Arbitrum One, and the Sunset of the Hosted Service.
Moving Protocol To L2 Arbitrum One
The Graph Network's primary area for enhancement is moving the protocol to L2 Arbitrum One. Graph announced the migration of the complete network and services to Arbitrum during the last Graph Day in June 2022. It has been challenging for its members to run efficiently and financially due to Ethereum's high-fee environment. As a result, switching to Arbitrum will provide a significant chance to expand the Graph network. Delegators and Curators will benefit from switching to Arbitrum since they could experience decreased network expenses while playing crucial roles in the ecosystem.
Other Strategies
Firehose is vital for indexing chains such as Solana, Near, and Arweave. It speeds up indexing by transforming blockchain data to flat files preserved locally instead of reading from a comparable node. Because of this quicker read time, indexers can scale more effectively and handle more subgraphs. It also assists in abstracting away many of the specifics associated with indexing different chains by giving the network a uniform interface. Substreams is a brand-new building component for very efficient parallel stream processing. Substreams are the primary project of StreamingFast, one of The Graph's six core developers.
