New Zealand Police have announced that hacked cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia "can open again whenever they like". However there is no sign of the exchange opening now or any time soon.

The New Zealand Herald reports that police have given the green light to Cryptopia to reopen their exchange. However Cryptopia haven't appeared to taken to the idea of reopening so soon after the $16m+ worth of tokens were stolen from the exchange.

Reports also state that the founders are remaining dormant and silent regarding the hack and have not responded to queries about when or if the exchange will resume business.

Detective inspector Greg Murton commented on the hack saying "We have finished the main part of the work required by the High Tech Crime Group at Cryptopia's business premises, although HTCG staff remain there finishing up aspects of their work, Cryptopia management have full access to their facilities and business premises and the Police investigation is not preventing their business from getting up and running again."

Currently no sign of an arrest or charges laid against the hackers has been made.

A Cryptopia staff member also told the Herald that he had no idea when the exchange would reopen, and that he was also relying on police reports and the media for updates.

The chances of Cryptopia reopening soon is most likely not going to happen, considering the hackers appear to have compromised Cryptopia's private key database and potentially had access to the 1.4 million user wallets. Finding a solution for this issue as well as finding the security flaw and patching it up will most likely take time. The next question is will Cryptopia have the funds to continue operating following the hack?

So... will #Cryptopia finally come clean and give us some facts or even, heaven forbid, access to our accounts so we can see the mess for ourselves?

The excuse "police does not let us": not valid any more. @Cryptopia_NZ#cryptopia #hack #investigationhttps://t.co/aqJEsEnp31
