Graham Ivan Clark, the teenager behind the infamous Twitter hack of July 2020, will serve three years in jail and three years probation. The penalty was part of his plea deal offered by the prosecutors. Last year, the teen hacker took over verified Twitter accounts as part of a Bitcoin scam to steal the leading cryptocurrency.

Infamous Twitter Hacker Lands Three Years in Prison

Graham Ivan Clark will serve three years in prison and three years of probation after pleading guilty to financial fraud charges.

Graham Ivan Clark hacked into popular Twitter accounts from celebs such as Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, socialite Kim Kardashian, President Joe Biden including former President Barack Obama among them.

He was able to get control of about 130 Twitter accounts by compromising a Twitter employee.

Apparently, Graham Ivan Clark sent tweets soliciting followers to send Bitcoin payments, promising on sending them back twice as much as they donated.

All the compromised accounts posted the same tweet as below:

“We are giving back to our community. We support Bitcoin and we believe you should too!” All Bitcoin sent to our address below will be sent back to you doubled! Only going on for the next 30 minutes.”

The hackers also took over the Twitter accounts of crypto platforms such as Bitfinex, Gemini and Coinbase, Tron CEO, Justin Sun, Bitcoin.com, Kucoin, CoinDesk, among others.

$180,000 Worth of Bitcoin Stolen from the Twitter Hack

Graham Ivan Clark pulled the Twitter hack with the assistance of two teens Nima Fazeli from Orlando and Mason Sheppard from the U.K., who were also charged for their alleged roles in the July 15 hack. Fazeli and Sheppard have faced similar federal charges.

Despite the high-profile Twitter hack, the teenagers only managed to pull off $180,000 worth of Bitcoin from the scam.

Graham Ivan Clark was arrested back in July 2020 when he was still 17 years, along with Fazeli and Sheppard just a couple of weeks after the Twitter hack.
