How to Mint NFTs on Tezos - NFT

Ethereum gas fees being through the roof makes minting artwork affordably on that network impossible.

This has led creators to look for or make new options. NFTs on Tezos offer low-fee transactions on a fast and secure network. Tezos marketplace Hic et Nunc (HEN) has had a turbulent past, but now the community-run platform is perfect for 1/1 artists. What does that mean?

Not everyone wants to be involved in this digital trading card game that NFT trading has turned into. A lot of them revolve around speculating on communities and utility, and have low-effort visuals. NFTs aren’t just that. They can also be single pieces or editions of art made by digital artists. NFTs on Tezos enable these artists to finally be properly compensated for their work.

How Do I Mint My Own Digital Art NFTs on Tezos?

The process is actually surprisingly simple!

1. Install Tezos Wallet

First, install one of the following wallets onto your laptop or desktop browser. Make sure you are using Brave or Chrome as your primary browser to make this installation easier. Temple wallet is a quick installation and works similarly to MetaMask or Phantom.

2. Set up Your Account and Fund With $XTZ

Next, you will need to create a Temple account. Write down your seed phrase and make sure to store it in a secure place. This is the key to your account. If you forget your password, you can recover your account using your seed phrase. If you forget your password and lose your seed phrase, you will be locked out of your account.

Additionally, to mint items, you need to have your account funded with some $XTZ. You can see a list of markets you can purchase $XTZ from here. After purchasing, copy your Temple address from the top of the Temple window.

Withdraw your $XTZ from the CEX account you purchased it from and transfer it to your copied address. You don’t need a lot to mint, but you will want enough to purchase items that interest you as well. Fund the account with 5 $XTZ at the most, and you will have enough to participate!

3. Set Up a Profile on HEN

Next, set up your profile on Hic et Nunc. In order for your NFTs to appear on the home feed, a registered account is needed. Connect your wallet here and then set up your profile.

If you want to get even more advanced, follow this guide on how to set up a verified Tezos profile. This allows you to connect your social media accounts to your HEN account and have it all direct to your wallet from one profile. This costs 0.3 tez, so only consider this if you are looking for an extra level of verification for buyers on your profile.

4. Mint Your Artwork

Next, and what you’re probably most interested in, it’s time to mint your art. Connect your wallet to this link and fill out the information about your creation. Things that are final and cannot be changed after mint include:

  • Edition size
  • Title
  • Description
  • Tags
  • Royalties

The current file size limit is set at 100Mb as well. Make sure to keep this in mind when minting your project!

5. Sell Your Artwork

In order to sell your artwork, click on manage assets. Here you should see your creations. Click on what you’d like to sell, how many from the edition, and set the price.

Hit swap and sign for the transaction. That’s it!
