An enterprising 12-year-old boy from London recently made 80 ETH through the sale of his non-fungible token (NFT) collection.

According to a report by Decrypt, Benyamin Ahmed, creator of “Weird Whales” has made $160K from the sale of his NFT collection. This collection of Ethereum-powered NFTs consists of 3350 whales that “have been programmatically generated from an ocean of combinations, each with unique characteristics and different traits.”

Ahmed told Decrypt:

I got interested in the NFT space because originally I thought it was cool as an online flex.

Ahmed said he went on to develop “respect” for the digital art style after viewing several popular collections, including CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Ahmed, with the help of his father who works as a web developer, was able to collaborate with the “Boring Bananas” NFT project in order to bring Weird Whales to life. The collection soon went viral, netting Ahmed 80 ETH in roughly nine hours.

In addition to the collection’s sale, Ahmed said that he was generating income from royalties on the project.

He explained:

I’ve also made some money from royalties on OpenSea. Whenever someone buys a whale, I get 2.5% of the amount of money it sold for.

Ahmed said he had no interest in selling the ETH and instead plans to “just HODL.”
