An IT technician has been arrested for allegedly running crypto mining activities from the Police headquarters in Warsaw. He was working for the Polish Police when he organized this crime. He has been dismissed from his duties and the case has been registered to the Prosecutor’s office.

Polish Police have arrested an IT engineer working for the law enforcement agency. The culprit was running a secret crypto mining operation at their headquarters in Warsaw. He has been accused of mining coins on police computers. He has been dismissed from his duties and the case is given to the prosecutor’s office.

The news was reported in the local newspaper of Poland. The officers from the Polish National Police have found a crypto mining farm, which was described by the local media at the Policja headquarters.

Police computer compromised

As per the sources, the crypto miner has used police computers that he upgraded with video cards and specialized software. The mining equipment must have consumed a lot of electricity due to the energy-intensive coin minting process. However, the biggest worry is that records from the police database might have been stolen.

There was a lot of confidential information stored in the computer network. These were like reports from collaborators and digital files. But the police officials have informed that no data breach occurred and that the information has not been compromised. There are also no breaches of the internal police data transmission network that have been detected so far.

Dismissing from duties

The IT specialist who has been accused of coin mining has been fired, and the contract of another employee has been terminated. The police did not reveal the names of the accused. The National Police Command (KGP) spokesperson, Inspector Mariusz Ciarka confirmed to Gazeta Wyborcza that the crypto miner has been dismissed from immediate effect.

He also informed me that the device that he used for mining was not connected to any database. The case largely revolves around the theft of electricity consumed by cryptocurrency mining.

The case has been transferred to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. The investigation of the case will continue to find out if the crime has been conducted. Experts are running on locating out the losses for the police carrier in phrases of the quantity of power fed on to mine virtual currencies.
