Apple Ignore Metaverse For Its Mixed Reality Headset
Apple is not going for Metaverse.
Apple has rejected the idea of a metaverse for its mixed reality headset. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple will focus on communication, content viewing, and gaming.
Mark Gurman shared an image of the Latest Bloomberg Newsletter showing Apple is no longer interested in Metaverse.
Gurman sources claim that the very concept of the metaverse, as seen on Facebook, is off-limits for Apple. “The AR headset is a real priority for Apple because you can wear it all day and, of course, it does not take anyone out of the real environment,”
According to rumors, Apple will introduce an augmented or mixed reality device in the second half of 2022; however, its specifications and target audience have not yet been determined. Renowned product analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the headset be equipped with 4K displays and six to eight cameras to track the user and the environment.
There is no data on the cost of the future device. However, according to Kuo, due to its “modest” characteristics, most users will be able to buy it.
If this is true, in the future, the Apple approach would be very different for Meta, formerly Facebook. Meta has turned its AR and VR strategies toward the metaverse, While Apple avoids it. Apple is taking risks if Metaverse does succeed; Apple can miss out and might have to support other VR environments in the future.
Recall that at the end of December 2021, the media reported the active development of augmented reality glasses by Google. The device will compete with a similar product from Apple. In December, Ming-Chi Kuo announced that Apple’s mixed reality headsets would replace smartphones in the next ten years.
