Didi Taihuttu, a Dutch businessman, husband and father of three girls, decided to sell almost everything they owned and invest it all into Bitcoin. Wall Street Journalist Thomas Di Fonzo followed the 'Bitcoin Family' on a year-long journey.
Didi Taihuttu and his family decided to radically change their lives in the Summer of 2017. They wanted to down-size and live with minimum possesions and Didi was convinced that buying into cryptocurrency would be the vehicle that would allow him and his family to do just that.
He first bought into bitcoin in February 2017, when the price was around $1,000 and has been buying BTC all the way up to almost $10,000. However, Didi held on to his investment even as it hit all-time-highs of almost $20,000 at the beginning of January 2018.
He didn't wish to reveal how much BTC he exactly owned, but said that he believed he would be a millionaire by May.
Then Bitcoin crashed, and as we now know, it kept on crashing.
However, Didi remained unfazed, stating that he is in it for the long run and that he still owns 'the same amount of bitcoins' while enjoying life with his wife and kids on a beach somewhere in Thailand.
Today Didi and his family have become a Bitcoin brand. Better known as 'the Bitcoin Family, they travel the roads of Europe in a campervan, exploring all the places where Bitcoin was accepted as a means of payment.
When asked what his end game was, Didi said they don't have one.
'We don't have an end game. We don't have an exit plan.'
'My goal wasn't to become a millionaire. My goal was to change our lives. I changed our lives and we are very happy with it.'
Currently Didi and his family are officially registered in The Netherlands as homeless people.
He told the Bitcoin podcast that they do not have anything left.
'We don't have anything anymore, just some Bitcoins.'
Some people 'talk' about big moves, Didi and his family are people who 'make' big moves.
Now lets hope that bull run is just around the corner, so next time we hear from Didi he can tell us all, 'told you so!'.
