Shaanxi Expressway accepts digital yuan as tolls

Shaanxi Province has built the province’s first toll lane that supports digital yuan payments; the first payment was successfully made on August 16.

• Shaanxi Province says it will continue to install digital renminbi payment equipment at all expressway toll stations in the province.

• Shaanxi Province is located in the western inland region of China, and its capital city, Xi’an, is one of the joint points of China’s One Belt One Road western route.

• Since October 2020, Xi’an has been among the second batch of e-CNY pilot cities in China. By June 2021, more than 1.1 million private wallets were registered by individuals and individual commercial households, and nearly 200,000 public wallets registered by legal persons and unincorporated institutions have been rolled out in Xi’an, with more than 70,000 locations accepting digital RMB payments in that city.
