IOTA has announced a new project emerging from a recent hackathon held during the Covid-19 period: it is a passport for digital identity, containing essential health information such as vaccines.
The Global Legal Hackathon was held from April 27th to May 22nd and IOTA and the Dentos team worked on a mobile application and a website dedicated to digital identity.
The project operates on IOTA and the goal is to have a digital identity app that contains all of the information of an individual, such as personal and health data, including Covid-19 testing and vaccinations.
An app on Iota for digital identity
The application, Selv, allows storing, managing and sharing data, verified with third parties. Among its other features are::
- Free and accessible: the application is completely free, it is open source and there are no fees to use it;
- Compliant with the GDPR, although it is decentralized it has no problems with the relative regulation of personal data;
- Private and secure, all data is encrypted and saved on the user’s device, moreover, this solution will be audited by a third party company;
- Scalable and interoperable: the application follows the W3C specifications in the identification area.
The system is currently being tested, but it can already be downloaded on the official iOS and Android stores and the progress achieved in this area can be experienced first-hand, demonstrating how such an application is not only feasible but also allows the integration of the blockchain.
The future of the project
Iota explained that new libraries will be developed to replace the previous ones that were experimental and to allow the creation of new tools that are easy to implement, which were already foreseen in the project whitepaper precisely concerning a digital identity solution.
