The company Blockchain Italia, in collaboration with the association Italia4Blockchain and Federazione Lavoratori Pubblici e Funzioni Pubbliche (FLP), today announced a new initiative to enhance cultural heritage in Italy during the COVID-19 emergency.

The project is called Italian Wonders and is non-profit.  The objective of the initiative, as explained in the press release published today, is to raise funds to help municipalities in difficulty and art sites economically affected by the spread of the coronavirus.

The platform was created to tokenize the Italian cultural and artistic heritage. Currently, on the website, there are 90 ERC721 tokens, which are NFTs based on the Ethereum blockchain, which represent some of the most famous works of art in Italy.

Anyone can contribute to the collection of funds, which will be donated to the various regions of Italy without fees charged by the platform.

Pietro Azzara, Founder and CEO of Blockchain Italia, said:.

“Italian Wonders is a new form of contemporary social patronage, which takes advantage of the potential of blockchain to support and sustain all that is art. We hope to involve more artists and stakeholders in the sector, including those abroad, to show that we can support and take care, even from a distance, of the symbolic places of our culture, safeguarding the country with the largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, Italy”.
