In a recent tweet, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says it’s only “a matter of time” before the social media giant Twitter integrates the Lightning Network, a layer-two scaling solution built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain.

The popular protocol will likely be used for micropayments on Twitter, but Dorsey is yet to provide any details about the integration.

On June 11, Dorsey responded to a question from Twitter user “deyonté,” who had requested that Dorsey should integrate the Lightning Network into Twitter or BlueSky — the decentralized social network, Twitter has devoted manpower to developing since 2019.

Twitter CEO Responded:

Only a matter of time

Earlier Dorsey’s payment company Square is considering developing its own Bitcoin hardware wallet.

Square revealed a partnership with blockchain infrastructure firm Blockstream, planning to invest $5 million into a solar-powered Bitcoin mining facility.

Over the past few years, the Lightning Network has made significant strides in terms of adoption, with Bitfinex becoming the first major exchange to integrate it in late 2019. Kraken also plans to add such functionality in 2021.

On top of that, merchants in El Salvador may also accept payments over Lightning, which will give a major adoption to the BTC Lightning Network.
