Singer/songwriter and businesswoman, Mariah Carey, has recently partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Gemini to encourage her fans to sign up to the platform and invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The latest celebrity to partner with a cryptocurrency platform, Mariah Carey is following the likes of Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady, Floyd Mayweather, and a slew of famous athletes who have shared the news of their crypto partnerships.

In a video message on her social platforms, Carey announced that she has partnered with Gemini, and provided a referral code of $20 dollars in free BTC for her fans who wanted to invest. She added that users would be contributing to a non-profit organization Black Girls Code when they signed up with the referral code provided.

She added:

“Did you know you don’t need to buy a whole Bitcoin to invest? In fact, you can buy as little as $5,”

The non-profit Black Girls Code is directed at girls of colour to assist them in pursuing STEM degrees (college programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Crypto investors has doubled over the past year according to Gemini’s 2021 The State of U.S. Crypto Report. Gemini co-founder and Winklevoss twin, Tyler Winklevoss, commented on the partnership in a press release:

“It’s great to see Mariah and other celebrities discover Bitcoin as an investment and hedge against inflation. Cryptos like Bitcoin and Ether were two of the best-performing assets of the last decade. Our goal at Gemini is to help educate you on the promise of crypto and make it simple, easy, and safe for you to engage in this new asset class.”

Celebrity endorsements of cryptocurrencies have been on the increase, particularly this year as the cryptocurrency sector is becoming mainstream. The kind of influence that celebrities can have on the industry is not to be underestimated, Tesla CEO is a key example of how a tweet or video from a influencer or A lister can impact the adoption of a cryptocurrency.
