The latest updates for IOTA - The Cryptonomist

IOTA, a project dedicated to IoT (Internet of Things) has announced its latest updates.

This time too, the update concerns the management of the names of the various functions, previously a bit too complicated and confusing.

This change of nomenclature was made in anticipation of the launch of IOTA 2.0 and represents a first phase of the project. Once again the names of the Apoidea superfamily were chosen, hence continuing the previously initiated metamorphosis.

Going into detail, we have 3 different name changes:

• Pollen is the official testnet of IOTA 2.0, which represents an important change from the previous version GoShimmer v0.1.3. This testnet will serve as the basis for the foundation, the community and all the researchers who want to use it to test different things;
• Nectar, which is expected to be released in the second half of 2020, will allow to fully implement the Coordicide modules for a testnet with incentives, in order to exploit the control of possible bugs and at the same time reward all those who will actively participate in this phase, a bit like what happened with Cardano (ADA);
• Honey, the final release for IOTA 2.0, which will include all the complete modules and final specifications of Coordicide, a phase that will be well advanced and will already have several hours of testing under its belt and thus ready for release on the mainnet at a later date.

Finally, in the post the IOTA team points out that this analogy with the world of Hymenoptera symbolizes the hard work of the people involved in the project, which is as complex as a neural network.

The analogy was chosen because of the network structure of IOTA with all its small actors contributing to the project.

The hope is that this new nomenclature will facilitate the coordination work of the team so that there will be no problems in the future.

The immediate result can already be seen in the comments to the tweet where IOTA announced this change: some people joke about the idea, but in general the feedback from the community seems positive.
