Some of the documents required on the case of Alexander Vinnik has been received, but the defendants have not yet seen all of them, told Mr. Vinnik’s lawyer to RIA Novosti, the Russian media. The date of the trial is not specified as well, he added.

On the 25th of July this year, Vinnik was arrested in a hotel located on the Chalkidiki peninsula, Northern Greece. The Greek police (together with the FBI) believes that this 38-year old Russian was the leader of an organized crime group that owns and manages one of the main websites cybercriminals use – the BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange. The American investigators responsible for the case believe that Vinnik laundered up to 4 billion U.S. dollars. He refused to go to the United States voluntarily, so before any next step American law enforcement will take, he will remain in Saloniki under arrest.

Although the lawyer categorically rejects the accusations, he told that Greek law enforcement almost certainly will concede extradition and that the United States is very interested that the extradition becomes successful.

Vinnik has good detention conditions, the Russian consulate in Greece assured the correspondent of RIA Novosti. The consulate takes all necessary measures to protect the rights of this Russian citizens, the representative added.
