Luxury watchmaker Hublot has partnered with technology company KerQuest to implement an e-passport and warranty system for all of its watches in an effort to combat counterfeiting. Hublot's electronic warranty will be compatible with all watches produced in early 2020 and will be registered online on the AURA blockchain.

KerQuest has developed a solution that makes it possible to recognize objects from photographs. Thanks to the unique composition of materials and the use of artificial intelligence in Hublot watches, this technology is used to recognize the watch and confirm its authenticity. Each piece is photographed when it leaves production. Then, when the watch is on sale, the retailer uses the Hublot e-Warranty app to take a picture of the watch face. The photo is sent to the server, which processes it and activates the warranty if the product is genuine.

The project was initiated by luxury conglomerate LVMH to combat counterfeiting luxury goods and has been in existence for over a year. Hublot is part of the LVMH group.
