According to a Piplsay study, 33% of Americans own at least one type of cryptocurrency. Nearly half of all millennials polled own some type of cryptocurrency, compared with a third of Gen X and 13% of Gen Z. The Piplsay study was conducted nationwide in the USA in May 2021. 5,061 online responses were received from people aged 18 and older.

Almost half of the respondents are interested in purchasing services or products using cryptocurrency. In terms of crypto adoption, millennials are leading the way. 88% of respondents investing in cryptocurrency have a college or master's degree. 46% of Americans plan to buy cryptocurrency next year. However, 21% want to sell cryptocurrency, while the rest stick to their current positions.

The overwhelming majority of respondents consider cryptocurrency to be a rather risky asset, citing factors such as lack of knowledge about the system, lack of regulation, instability and fear of fraud.
