Everything You Need to Know About ZCash Blossom Upgrade

Since announcing their targets for the future dubbed Blossom Goals in a November Forum, the Zerocoin Electric Coin Company has strived relentlessly to collect information and capacity plan to attain the proposed targets.

The company actively solicited and got passionate, thoughtful, and meticulous feedback from their community. After that process was completed, they narrowed down their Blossom Goals and redefined them significantly.

The redefinition led to the creation of the final blossom goals for what the company plans to implement and support in the growth of its Zcashd Blossom series software. This series will decouple the three funding channels for the Company Strategic Reserve, the Zcash Foundation, and the remainder.

The Split Founder’s Reward

The splitting will assist in de-risking the company’s funding streams compared to the past when the funding was running through a single stream. A single stream has higher risks of getting compromised either by hackers, some type of technical mistake, the result of a legal issue, or organizational failure. In the current model, all of the three revenue streams can be compromised.

However, in the new split model where the founder’s reward exists in three channels in the protocol, all revenue streams that are not compromised directly will always be left unaffected. Thus, the ‘blast radius’ of an unprecedented event is reduced drastically.

Reduced Block times

The new Blossom series is expected to increase the frequency of blocks as a result of enhanced security and performance analysis. The shorter blocktimes enable more transactions to take place and also enables them to resolve quickly. Therefore, the development will enhance Zcash’s usability and increase the number of transactions per hour the network can uphold while maintaining low transaction fees.

Some of the initial goals like Harmony Mining cannot be achieved in the Blossom timeline. Thus, they were postponed to the April 2020 upgrade, NU3, scheduled to take place after Blossom.

Any of the remaining goals may be postponed as well in the case that the company discovers significant challenges during the specification auditing at the end of February, inability to complete the code on time by the end of March, or issues arising from code testing and auditing by the end of May.

Probable Habitual Releases

The company plans to pursue various goals as possible regular releases in addition to its Blossom upgrade goals. Given the limited time and engineering resources, any goals able to be achieved, even partially, with a regular release out of the Blossom network upgrade were shifted.

The Rollback Protection and Sprout Address Retirement goals are targeted as part of regular releases before the activation of Blossom at the end of October. The company team has started writing specifications for the two Blossom upgrade goals. They are aiming to complete the specifications by January 22. Real work on the extra regular release goals listed within the next two to five months. We will keep you updated.
