In an unprecedented move, the microblogging site, Twitter has suspended the major cryptocurrency-related accounts of many supporters and influencers, including several big wheels in the crypto space. The social media platform did not give any public explanation as to what led to the abrupt suspension and the restoration of the said accounts.

Twitter Suspends Crypto Influencers Accounts

On March 10, Bitcoin podcaster Peter McCormack tweeted that at least seven crypto-related accounts have been recently suspended by the social media site.

The social media profiles became inaccessible, as some users noticed the suspension around the early hours of March 10.

The suspended accounts include some of the most popular crypto figures including on-chain analyst Willy Woo, creator of the Bitcoin stock-to-flow model PlanB, crypto advocate TheCryptoDog, as well as the crypto proponent and trader Carl ‘The Moon’ Runefelt.

Other crypto-related accounts include MMCrypto, Koroush AK, and the self-proclaimed WSB Chairman.

As a precaution against the mass suspensions, other major crypto influencers have turned their account settings to private.

 Increased Account Suspension Mistakes

In response to the mass suspension, Twitter Support notified that the platform has been experiencing increasing accounts suspensions mistakenly.

Thanks for sticking with us. We're experiencing a rise in cases and our team is working quickly to respond as soon as they can.

This isn’t the first time, a centralized social platform has censored crypto-related accounts for no apparent reason. Last year, YouTube too did the same thing with its mass suspension of accounts related to cryptocurrency contents.

The latest move comes as a surprise as Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter is well-known for being an ardent supporter of Bitcoin and Decentralized Blockchain services.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, PlanB’s account and Willy Woo’s account have been restored.

Ditto. My account was suspended for ~6 hrs.

I went through the process mentioning @100trillionUSD was taken down also and this was the email response they gave when they reactivated.

Let's hope at least the scam accounts get under control. https://t.co/sW1BHkxXmN pic.twitter.com/JGeVPaCnDN

Despite a brief suspension of PlanB, the social media site did not take down some of the prominent crypto influencers’ impersonators. For instance, some of the fake PlanB accounts like 100TrillionUSDT and 100TrillionUSDD were not suspended.

I also suspect some sort of overzealous algo, but it's really fucking weird that it managed to remove @100TrillionUSD, but didn't remove obvious fakes such as @100TrillionUSDT or @100TrillionUSDD.
