Last month, The Phillippines were struck by a typhoon that left hundreds of cities completely destroyed. According to the latest numbers, more than four million people have been injured, with 407 of them dead and 88 missing.

Yield Guild Games (YGG), a gaming group, decided to organize a crypto fundraiser to help the people in need. “Today, with the help of our YGG communities, managers, and friends, we are organizing relief efforts for Typhoon Odette (Rai) victims,” they announced on their Twitter account a day after the disaster struck.

The community’s reaction has been overwhelming, with the number of donations reaching $1.4 Million in just three weeks.

In the first hour, we were over $ 100,000, and the first day we were at $ 300,000. It has now been three weeks and donations continue to flow. Yesterday we raised over $ 1.4 million just through donations from the crypto community, said Luis Buenaventura, YGG Philippines national director.

The company has its teams on the ground and is using the funds received to provide food, water, medicine, and electric generators to the affected areas. So far, they have been able to reach 1,600 households and have enough resources for 3,000 more.

While that may sound like a lot, early estimates indicate that over 55,000 homes were destroyed by the typhoon, so we still have a long way to go,” adds Buenaventura.

The fundraiser continues and donations can still be made through YGG Phillippines official discord server.
