Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone will soon join the modern wave of celebrities selling NFTs to their fans. The actor recently created the “PlanetSly” collection, composed of 9,997 digital “SLYGuys” set to launch next month.

The PlanetSly Collection

Stallone introduced his new collection in an Instagram video last week. Reportedly “curated” by Stallone himself, each NFT features artwork inspired by his various movie roles throughout his career. According to the PlanetSly website, they were produced in collaboration with Clark Mitchell, who has also done work with Marvel, Hasbro, and Star Wars.

Each includes one of over 200 “attributes” ranging from his boxing gloves to weapons Stallone has used, to his large dog. The actor said that they’re also inspired by his lifelong love of both art and comic books.

“Every NFT is unique,” he said in the video. “NFTs are so much more than just digital collectibles. Slyguys has a roadmap that goes the distance – all the way.”

By that, he refers to perks available only to the collection’s holders, including exclusive merch and membership to real-life events with Stallone. This could mean dinners, meet and greets, a cocktail club, and other opportunities.

25 of the NFTs will be extra special “Golden Signature SLYGuys”, individually autographed and numbered by Stallone himself. They will come with their own unique set of utilities and are to be auctioned on OpenSea at a future date.

The NFTs will be sold on Ethereum, upon which the actor encouraged his followers to set up a MetaMask wallet to buy the NFTs.

The Celebrity NFT Phenomenon

NFTs have proven a simple and useful method for celebrities to both make a profit, and to connect with fans. Just today, Rappers Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa released a collaborative set of music NFTs based on the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection, only purchasable through ApeCoin.

Last week, famous gaming streamer Dr. Disrespect established similar NFTs exclusive to his most loyal fans. As with Stallone’s, they will feature in real-life perks, alongside voting rights pertaining to the development of the streamer’s upcoming game.

Even for celebrities not marketing their own collections, music sensations like Justin Bieber and Eminem are gobbling up bored apes, while athletes like Odell Beckham Jr. make NFTs their profile pictures.
