Web3 domain service Unstoppable Domains (UD) announced today that Pudgy Penguins’ ‘.pudgy’ domain is the next top-level domain (TLD) to become ‘Web2’, becoming equivalent to domains such as ‘.com.’ This move is made viable via a partnership between UD and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

After the Pudgy Penguins-related ‘.pudgy’ domain was successfully launched as Unstoppable’s 10th branded Web3 domain in February, the brand started strategizing alongside UD for the upcoming registration of .pudgy as an ICANN-registered generic top-level domain (gTLD), standing alongside such iconic legacy addresses as .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and others.

“We are thrilled to partner with Pudgy on this ambitious venture,” said Sandy Carter, COO of Unstoppable Domains. “Our alliance is poised to start with a Web3 domain to test, and deliver a low-cost solution. This is a step towards ensuring we can plan and strategize for the upcoming ICANN work.”

Moreover, other brands and cities will also be able to work with UD to expand the reach of their existing web3 domains to enable a low-cost integrated naming solution ahead of the next ICANN round.

“Joining forces with Unstoppable Domains to spearhead the next evolution of digital identities is exhilarating. Our combined efforts underscore our dedication to a user-focused web. We eagerly anticipate our engagement with ICANN to materialize our shared vision,” noted Lorenzo Netz, president and CTO of Pudgy Penguins.
