HTC To Release New Smartphone With Metaverse Features

On Tuesday, In an effort to continue its Web3 expansion, HTC, the virtual reality (VR) gear and smartphone maker is expected to launch a new mobile phone that contains metaverse features.

Viverse, the VR and metaverse arm of HTC, posted a phone-shaped graphic on Twitter in early June, however, didn’t reveal any additional details or specifications. HTC hasn’t yet given any official statement.

HTC is a Taiwanese consumer electronics company headquartered in Xindian District, Taiwan. The firm is currently focused on VR gear production. Its latest phone was released back in January 2021. 

In March, HTC’s general manager for APAC, Chaoying Huang, stated that the firm plans to release a metaverse-related phone in 2022. According to Business Next, a Taiwanese tech media, clearing any doubts said that HTC was not halting its smartphone business.

Google purchased a US$1.1 billion part of HTC’s smartphone hardware business in 2017. HTC is among the early phone makers to experiment with blockchain technology.

However, there are issues surrounding the phone. Among them are issues about the model, whether the phone will have a flagship model, and if it would have a distinctive camera or new sensors. Details about the phone are still unknown. It is being speculated that the phone will have the Vive Flow VR headset and native AR software. Moreover, it is important to note that Viveverse, the metaverse brand of HTC, has debuted AR and VR hardware for supporting the Viveverse experience.
