Ethereum's Pre-Merge Energy Consumption Equals Annual Use of Switzerland

Ethereum's energy consumption from 2015 to late 2021 is equivalent to Switzerland's yearly usage, according to the University of Cambridge's Centre for Alternative Finance. Ethereum consumed 58.26 TWh in that period, while Switzerland used 54.88 TWh annually, with Bitcoin's energy consumption at 143.9 TWh. Non-fungible token (NFT) artists have also expressed concern about Ethereum's power requirements for creating works.
