Human Rights Foundation (HRF) funded 425m SATs for Bitcoin Network Development

Among many well-wishers of the Bitcoin network and other crypto projects, the Human Rights Foundation is one influential and prominent name. HRF is a global organization working on human rights and their protection worldwide. From the beginning of the Bitcoin Network, HRF supported it and considered it necessary, and a critical revolution took place. 

HRF has always taken a stance in favor of Bitcoin and even given statements in its support. In Jan 2021, HRF’s Chief Strategy Officer stated not to demonize the Bitcoin network and cryptocurrencies, just based on their misusing. He said that it’s a neutral form of money meant to be used in that way. It can’t discriminate between good and evil. If Bitcoin Network is wrong just because extremists use it and use it, they use mobile phones, email, and the internet. 

Besides vocally support, the Foundation also allocates funds to individuals or organizations working for the Bitcoin Network. In May 2020, they launched the Bitcoin Development Fund for gifting the funds. They choose developers, crypto educators, and activists working in Bitcoin networks and contributing to Bitcoin Development. In a recent press release, HRF told about its recent gift round.

In this recent gift round, the Foundation distributed 425 Sats, the smallest unit of bitcoin, to developers who contributed to Bitcoin development projects improving the bitcoin network’s security, scalability, etc., for Bitcoin Core, Lighting, and wallet development. In receivers of gifts, some educators and activists constantly provide crypto education and are aware of crypto. 

Those rewards in the forms of Bitcoin or sats have been distributed as being mentioned further. 

100 Million Sats or one Bitcoin had been given to a full-time Bitcoin core Developer Jarol Rodriguez. He’s currently working on a new graphical interface for Bitcoin core.

Then there were four receivers of 50 Million Sats each. One of them is an educator Farida Nabourema, and she founded ‘Togo’s Bitcoin Academy’ with the vision of providing crypto education in the region.

Another recipient was Roya Mahboob, who worked to reduce the gender bias related to Finance and ensured the presence of females in Crypto projects and their education. 

Foundation allocated 50 Million Sats to the developers of an ‘open-source Bitcoin-wallet’ desktop ‘Sparrow Wallet,’ working on features of improved privacy tools and Lighting.

One more 50 Million Sats was given to Anita Posch, an author, and podcaster. She created ‘Bitcoin for Fairness Foundation’ to provide crypto education in South Africa and the Latin American region.

Lastly, there were five recipients of 25 million sats each. 

Boltz Exchange, a privacy-focused Bitcoin Exchange built on Lighting.Another is an internship program that focuses on educating students about open-source Bitcoin Development, Summer of Bitcoin.

A non-profit organization translating Bitcoin-related content in native languages of Africa, its name is Exonumia.A translator and Crypto educator, Meron Estefanos, provides crypto education in Eritrea.

And Blockchain Commons, one more non-profit organization, works on Crypto Projects on Lighting.

These were the receivers of this round of gifts in which the Foundation had got help from CMS Holdings, Gemini Opportunity Funds, and Jameson Lopp. Another round of gifts will be done in the second quarter of 2022.
