Legendary American martial artist Jorge Masvidal partnered with record label Legacy Records to award Bitcoin-loaded hardware wallets, Ledger, to fighters.

“We are proud that we have formed a partnership with Legacy Records and can hand these ledgers directly to the fighters following their fights,” said Masvidal.

The bitcoin gifts were given to some of the fighters who participated in the recently concluded Gamebred Fighting Championship event. The beneficiaries, though, were only fighters who won the “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” categories of the fighting function.

According to Masvidal, the joint action of awarding Bitcoin to these fighters “helps secure their future” as the cryptocurrency offers them a long-term store of value and financial security compared to the annual lump paychecks they are normally given. Put simply, the fact that Bitcoin has a higher potential to appreciate in value than any fiat currency makes it a better gift option as the fighters could become wealthier by holding the cryptocurrency.

Masvidal further commented by stating that the recent development is the first of its kind in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) world and thus brings more excitement to the sport.

Keisha McLeod, CEO of U.S.-based Legacy Records, was also happy about the partnership and bitcoin-gifting and expressed similar excitement as Masvidal.

Moreso, Legacy Records was the premiere sponsor of the fighting function, and was also said to have previously sponsored the first episode of the fighting event that took place in June.

Notably, other sectors of the sporting industry are not left out when it comes to making Bitcoin and other crypto-related moves, similar to the recent MMA development. For instance, Coinfomania recently reported that football star, Lionel Messi, would begin to receive some of his bonus payments in his football club’s fan crypto token ($PSG).

Furthermore, the National Basketball Team (NBA) and Sacramento Kings also revealed earlier this year that employees and players in their organization can now choose to receive any percentage of their salary in bitcoin.
