LayerZero, a cross-chain interoperability protocol, is preparing to launch its long-awaited airdrop for users. LayerZero completed the first snapshot for its upcoming airdrop on May 2, according to a post on social network X from LayerZero Labs, which promises followers that “more information coming soon.”

Airdrops are widely used by decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols to increase popularity by rewarding early users with newly released cryptocurrencies. ZRO LayerZero was the first Hyperp to launch on the decentralized perpetual futures exchange (DEX) HyperLiquid back in September 2023.

ZRO Hyperp trading at $8.3 could imply a fully diluted valuation (FDV) of approximately $17 billion, according to Xulian, a major member of Hyperiquid. Hyperps trading is similar to perpetual futures contracts, but does not require the underlying spot or oracle index price. Hyperliquid is the world’s largest perpetual futures exchange by trading volume and open interest.
